Driving in Dubai has now become a lot more expensive

As of 1 December, the Road and Transport Authority has increased the prices of their vehicular fees.

Here is what you need to know

The costs of registering and licensing a new vehicle have decreased. If you’re buying a new car, you will only pay Dhs 400, as opposed to the previous fee of Dhs 460.

However, if you’re buying a second-hand vehicle, you will have to pay a new charge of Dhs 350 for the change of ownership, this is in addition to the Dhs 400 for mandatory vehicle testing. The total will be Dhs 750 as opposed to the Dhs 460 that was charged prior.

The full RTA report with all of the changes can be found here.

And finally...

  • Renewals in previous years were charged at Dhs 330, they are now Dhs 350.
  • Inspection fees for a ‘simple accident,’ are now Dhs 500.
  • Requesting a photograph for a speeding fine is now Dhs 100.
  • Hit and run reports are now Dhs 400.
