Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will officially open to visitors on 11 December 2026, according to a formal announcement by the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi.
Situated in the Saadiyat Cultural District on Saadiyat Island, the landmark museum was designed by the late architect Frank Gehry. Upon completion, it will become the largest facility in the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation’s international network, joining existing outposts in New York, Venice, and Bilbao.
The physical structure spans 80,000 square metres. Its architecture features ten distinctive sculptural cones constructed from stainless steel mesh, glass, and onyx surrounding a central atrium. Inside, the facility houses 30 individual galleries providing 11,600 square metres of indoor exhibition space, complemented by 23,000 square metres of outdoor display areas.
Guggenheim Abu Dhabi has been assembling its collection since 2009, curated around thematic disciplines rather than strict chronological timelines.
The venue completes another major component of Saadiyat Island's cultural ecosystem alongside Louvre Abu Dhabi and Zayed National Museum, providing direct access to world-class contemporary art.
