Dubai Municipality has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with electronic waste processing giant Enviroserve to enhance e-waste recycling infrastructure and boost the circular economy across the emirate.
The partnership establishes a formal framework to divert discarded household and corporate electronics from municipal landfills. This directly supports the objectives of the Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2021–2041 and the recently launched city-wide 'Circle Dubai' initiative, which aims to achieve zero waste to landfill.
Under the new agreement, Enviroserve, which operates the region's largest specialised electronic waste recycling and resource recovery facility in Dubai, will provide certified recycling, data destruction, and material recovery services. The collaboration focuses on transforming old smartphones, computers, and home appliances into valuable raw materials like metals and plastics.
For Dubai residents, the partnership is set to expand localised collection infrastructure, making it easier to safely dispose of old gadgets. Dedicated e-waste drop-off points and targeted community awareness campaigns will be rolled out across residential neighbourhoods, commercial zones, and public spaces to encourage source segregation and a reuse-first culture.
By integrating Enviroserve’s digital sustainability reporting systems, the municipality will be able to track verified data on landfill diversion, carbon emissions savings, and material recovery rates. This data-driven approach aligns with Law No. (18) of 2024 regulating waste management in Dubai, which mandates stricter recycling protocols and encourages private sector investment to safeguard public health and urban environmental quality.
The agreement was signed during a visit by His Excellency Engineer Marwan Ahmed Bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, to Enviroserve’s facility, in the presence of Etienne Petit, Chief Executive Officer of Tadweer Group, and Ahmed Hamad Bin Fahad, Chief Executive Officer of DUBAL Holding, and was signed by Engineer Adel Mohammed Al Marzouqi, CEO of the Waste and Sewerage Agency at Dubai Municipality, and Mahmoud Hussein Rashid, Chief Executive Officer of Enviroserve.
