Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in coordination with Dubai Police, has impounded more than 390 delivery bicycles over the past three months as part of a joint inspection campaign targeting violations in the delivery sector.

The campaign focused on monitoring commercial transport activity and ensuring that both delivery drivers and companies comply with licensing rules and safety requirements. Key inspection areas included Al Muraqqabat, Dubai Marina, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Downtown Dubai.

Saeed Al Ramsi, Director of Licensing Activities Monitoring at Licensing Agency, RTA, said: “The use of bikes in the delivery sector is experiencing rapid growth and has become one of the key economic activities in the emirate of Dubai. This growth calls for stronger field oversight and strict compliance with safety requirements for riders and road users. It is equally important to ensure that those working in this sector deliver the highest standards of service to the public across all segments of society.”

Inspection teams checked whether delivery bikes met mandatory technical and safety standards, including a front light, a red rear reflector, and a functioning bell mounted on the handlebars.

Riders are required to wear designated uniforms and approved safety gear such as helmets, reflective safety vests, and elbow and knee guards. They must also use designated lanes, operate only on roads with speed limits of no more than 60 kph, and stop only in approved parking or waiting areas to avoid obstructing pedestrians and traffic.
