Driving license renewal now every 5 years

A new law has reduced the driving license validity for UAE expats from 10 years to 5 years. The update was issued by His Highness Lt General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, and it affects UAE drivers whose licenses are up for renewal.

According to the original law established in 1995, the changes state that expats will now need to renew their driving license every five years, as opposed to the 10 year renewal period that was previously in place.

The cost of renewal will remain at Dhs 110 meaning drivers will have to pay twice the fee in the span of 10 years if it remains the same. Emiratis are exempt from the changes and their driving license once every 10 years.
