REVIEW: Ketch Up Bluewaters

When it comes to family friendly casual dining options in Dubai we are spoilt for choice, and with so many great destinations across the city, finding somewhere that offers a great view and backdrop is never really difficult. The challenge restaurateurs face is making their outlet stand out from the crowd.

One of Dubai’s latest developments, Bluewaters, is home to a host of new restaurants, some boasting panoramic views of Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina and JBR beachfront.

On our visit, we opted for family friendly restaurant, Ketch Up, and though an American diner themed menu, this is the chains first overseas outlet alongside the other eight set in Russia.

Ketch Up is set on two floors, a more adult focused lounge bar area upstairs, ideal for a relaxed evening out, and an open plan dining area with large outdoor terrace downstairs. Both areas offer some amazing views of Dubai from the new perspective that Bluewaters offers.

The menu offers a good selection of starters, salads, soups, mains and burgers ensuring enough variety to keep all the family satisfied. To start with we went for a Nicoise salad served with seared tuna and tomato dressing along with a portion of breaded shrimps served with grilled avocado. The salad, packed full of fresh flavours, was a generous portion allowing us to share, and the spicy sauce that came with the shrimps and avocado added a great kick to a tasty dish. For mains we were recommended the very popular signature Ketch Up burger and for a bit of nostalgia opted for the Chicken Kiev. The helpful and attentive staff were not wrong when they said the burger was on the large side, and it was dominated by a thick juicy beef pate, with salads, melted cheese, caramelised onions, an amazing special sauce and a soft fresh bun, baked that day on the premises. The Chicken Kiev was another big portion of succulent chicken fillet, baked in a thin and crispy casing and just the right amount of hot, melted garlic butter sauce inside. A forgotten dish that bought back memories and reminded us how good and comforting it is.

As big as the portions were, we still made room to finish off with a New York cheesecake and a berry tart with vanilla ice cream.  Perfect finish to a great relaxed meal.

Expect to pay around Dhs 200 per person for three courses not including drinks and the view is totally free.
