REVIEW: Chicago Meatpackers At The Pointe Palm Jumeirah

The Pointe on Palm Jumeirah, Dubai’s newest dining and leisure destination, offers a great day and evening out. A wide choice of places to sit down and eat, while enjoying amazing views of the Palm crescent and the iconic Atlantis. When all are fully open, there will be in excess of 70 restaurants and cafes to enjoy along with cinema and retails outlets.

On our visit we opted for something casual, and a must visit for meat lovers, Chicago Meatpackers. Spread over two floors, Chicago Meatpackers boasts panoramic views of the Palm and the Atlantis. A quaint little feature is a model freight train running around the restaurant on tracks suspended from the ceiling, enchanting to look at and made that bit more interesting when you get a glimpse of the Palm's own monorail in the background. The menu features a nice selection of starters, a good choice of meat cuts, burgers and seafood, and offers enough of a selection for everyone.

Our sharing starters, chili cheese nachos and a portion of Carpaccio, proved a popular choice. The generous portion of nachos, coming in green, red and black, unintentionally giving a subtle nod to the UAE flag, were accompanied by tasty chili, cheese sauce and guacamole. The thinly sliced tenderloin in the Carpaccio was full of flavour with a drizzle of olive oil and accompanied by chunky pieces of walnut.

For mains we tried two new additions to the menu, the chateaubriand and the grilled barramundi. For a restaurant that wants people to try its meats, it doesn’t do a bad a job of preparing what was a very decent fish dish. The barramundi was grilled to perfection and one of the tastiest pieces of fish we have had, flaky meat with a really crispy skin on the top. The chateaubriand, around 500 grams of sliced meat, was tender, juicy and fell apart at the touch. The accompanying homemade steak sauce added the right amount of flavour without masking the taste of the meat. If you have room for deserts, you won’t go wrong with the molten chocolate cake or the New York cheesecake, both a great way to add a bit of sweetness to end a great meal.

Prices vary across the main courses, but expect to pay around Dhs 250 per person for starters, main course and dessert, excluding drinks. For reservations call 04-5807983.
