Five ‘Arty’ Things To Do This Week

Ramadan is a time of self-reflection and art is a great medium to learn that approach. Let your creative mind flow this week, as a number of exclusive art exhibitions and events open this week, along with Alserkal Lates which returns for the season. And, for those who are looking for some peace, there is also a free yoga class.

Free Sunset Yoga

Head to the public beach just south of La Mer at 4.45pm to attend a peaceful yoga session by the beachside for free. The class will last for one hour from 5.00pm to 6.00pm. Attendees are required to reserve a spot and bring a yoga mat and towel.

Art Exhibition : Portraits

Located in Alserkal Avenue, Showcase Gallery, displays works of artists from across the region and Africa. This week, head to the gallery on Wednesday to check out the extraordinary works of three African artists, Albania’s Iskra Sahaj, Kenya’s Olivia Pendergast and Zambia’s Victor Sitali, who have recreated human figures using their own unique technique and styles. Timings are from 10.00am to 7.00pm. Entry is free.

Art Exhibition- The Gloomiest Sunset In The World

Art lovers can admire 'late-postmodern' paintings depicting the blurry lines between fantasy and reality at Amir Khojaesteh’s solo exhibition at Carbon 12. The Iranian artist's work reflects a sense of humour that will get viewers even more interested in his artwork. Timings are from 11.30am to 7.00pm. Entry is free.

Alserkal Lates

Alserkal Lates returns for another season. Every Wednesday, during the Holy Month of Ramadan, the art galleries, cafes and other art driven spaces will remain open until late from 8.00pm till 11.00pm. Visitors can indulge in late night art, music and theatre events until late and can bring the little ones along. Head to the creative capital of the city to spend an evening with fellow creative intellects.

Flow Talk Ramadan Series

On Wednesday evening, visitors to Flow can attend a meet and greet session with Khalid Mezaina, the independent artist, designer, and illustrator. The artist will discuss his journey, motivation and will showcase his illustrations. Khalid’s work ranges from prints, installations and murals, to designs for apparel, stationary, publications and textiles. Some of Khalid’s influences include pop culture, music and daily findings or observations from around the city he calls home. The event starts at 8.00pm and entry is free.
