This weekend is jam packed with a host of activities weaved around a Ramadan essence. Whether it be fashion exhibitions and art markets just in time for Eid, or charity walks and calligraphy workshops, all these events are worth a look.

Art of Calligraphy

The Dubai Mall is putting up a brilliant calligraphy show 'Light Calligraphy'  this weekend. Celebrated artist Karim Jabbari, one the top public artists in the world, is showcasing his artistic calligraphy artworks for a limited period only. His awe-inspiring works features ancient Kufi and Maghrebi scripts created with great attention to detail. Besides admiring great calligraphy works, under another mall activation, Quran Tech by Dubai Culture,  visitors can choose up to five verses from the Holy Quran from Dubai Culture's library and can create a calligraphy print in Arabic and five other languages. The theme of the whole calligraphy show is 'tolerance'. Entry is free.

Art Exhibition: I Will See It, When I Believe It

The new exhibition at Alserkal Avenue is a collection of artworks by Abbas Akhavan, Farhad Moshiri, Hayv Kahraman, Laleh Khorramian, Rana Begum, Slavs and Tatars, and Sophia Al Maria.The works are said to ‘possess a form of dissonance between the expected and the real, enabling a dialogue between artwork and viewer born out of confusion and failure to see a whole at once'.

Paint Your Own Coffee Mug

The new cafe, Sketch Art Café and Sketch Studio on  Al Wasl Road in Jumeirah is split into two; one part art studio and one part cafe. At the art studio, guests can try their artistic skills at drawing, painting and more, while at the cafe you can illustrate on a paper coffee cup. ARTE, The Makers' Market

Looking for some alternative shopping options in Dubai. Great, because we know where you should be going. ARTE, The Makers' Market returns to Mercato Mall for its Ramadan edition. Some 35 creatives will come together to showcase truly unique products that range from art, jewellery, home decor, accessories and so much more. The products are sold at reasonable prices and it is a good way for you to support and promote local talent. The market opens at 4pm and runs until midnight.

The Journey

Baghdad, 2006, a young woman walks into a crowded Baghdad train station, her finger poised on a detonator. As Sara stands on the cusp of committing an unthinkable act, an unforeseen and awkward encounter with a smooth-talking con man interrupts her plan. Gulf for Good Beach Hike

Walk to help children in need around the globe. Gulf for Good is organising a 14km beach hike this Saturday. People of all fitness levels above 16 years of age can participate in the challenge. The hike will take place over 7km one way then back again. Participants are allowed to go home anytime they want to. You are not bound to finish the race. All participants need to dress in activewear, sungalsses, hat, sun protection, and bring some snacks. Entry fee is Dhs 50 plus VAT. Pre-registration is a must. Email
