Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Awards (HIPA) has announced that the 'World’s Coolest Winter Photography Competition' has been launched.

In partnership with the UAE Government Media Office, individuals are encouraged to take pictures of hidden gems including the natural landscapes and wildlife in the UAE.

The competition will be held in two categories.

The first category is open to all and is one photograph for each of the five subcategories, desert, sea, mountains, valleys and Emirates from above.

The second category is aimed at professional photographers and will have them create a portfolio with four subcategories, Emirates in your eyes, Emirates wilderness, faces of the Emirates and street life in the Emirates.

The competition will run until 20 January 2022, with an award ceremony held for the competition winners.

A total of Dhs 250,000 will be awarded to the winners with Dhs 7,000 given for each of the five subcategories in the one photograph category and Dhs 50,000 each for the four subcategories under portfolio.

For the one photograph category, individuals can share the images on social media with the hashtag, #WorldsCoolestWinter.

Individuals need to be 18 and over to participate and can register via the HIPA website.

Ali Khalifa Bin Thalith, Secretary-General of HIPA said, “Photographs strongly influence emotion and spark excitement, meaning they can make a significant impression on any audience. We are delighted to manage the World’s Coolest Winter Photography Competition and strongly support the photography community here in the UAE, including hobbyists and professionals, to play a role in promoting UAE winter culture and tourism. I look forward to seeing their skills and talent competing for the prizes and also the experience and knowledge they have gained along the way.”
