Dubai Police, through a covert operation, have managed to arrest a man in possession of 500 kilograms of cocaine, worth over Dhs 500 million.

The operation was called Scorpion and was smuggled in through a hidden structure inside a cargo container to promote and sell into the country.

A Middle Eastern gang member was working as an intermediary for an international drug syndicate.

The suspect was placed under close surveillance after an anonymous tip was received.

The drugs were placed in a warehouse and the suspect later rented an SUV and brought tools to unload the container in the warehouse.

The man was arrested and confessed to the crimes.

Operation Scorpion was the largest drug seizure operation in the country, according to Dubai Police.

Expert Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs said, "Operation 'Scorpion' is a new achievement added to the proud record of Dubai police in combating and thwarting the schemes of drug dealers and promoters. It's proof of Dubai Police's highly qualified experts and criminal investigators, as well as the advanced methods and technologies utilised by the Force to combat transitional crime."
