RTA To Use Artificial Intelligence For Better Bus Services

WAM

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the implementation of the 'city brain' system, which uses artificial intelligence and advanced algorithms to manage traffic in urban areas.

The systems are in collaboration with Alibaba Cloud and will analyse the data received from NOL cards, operating buses and taxis as well as the Enterprise Command and Control Centre.

The data will then be converted into useful information that will send instant notifications and help in improving bus schedules and routes.

Bus ridership is expected to improve by 17%, journey time, as well as the average bus usage, is expected to increase by 5% and average waiting time will be reduced by 10%.

RTA along with FAMCO has also inaugurated a remote Bus Performance Monitoring Centre at Al Quoz Bus Depot for instant tracking and monitoring of the performance and efficiency of new buses fitted with the Telematics system.

The system enhances the operational and maintenance processes including alerts covering mechanical aspects, fuel consumption per kilometre and the condition of the safety equipment on board.

RTA will additionally continue to roll out public transport projects and integrated infrastructure and facilities, with six public bus stations, opened at Al Ghubaiba, Al Jafiliya, Etisalat, Union, Oud Metha and Al Satwa stations.
