Yas Mall Abu Dhabi has announced 'Quiet Hour' to help people with autism and their families, as well as people with sensory disorders, shop comfortably by providing a sensory-controlled environment.
The initiative will take place on the first Monday of every month from 11am to 12pm.
The Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination has partnered with Yas Mall Abu Dhabi for the initiative.
During 'Quiet Hour', brightness from the lights will be reduced, background music will be stopped, perfume and incense shops will reduce their smells, advertisements will be cut down, excluding emergency information, and stocking and arranging shelves will be restricted.
The initiative will help provide an enjoyable shopping experience and will not give people a sensory overload.
His Excellency Abdullah Abdulalee Al Humaidan, Secretary-General of Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination said, “We, as institutions, universities, destinations and families, must evoke our responsibilities in serving and caring for people of determination, including individuals with autism, and coordinate our efforts, join hands and cooperate to increase awareness among individuals, regarding Autism Spectrum Disorder and its symptoms, toward enhancing the role of autistic people and securing their empowerment and social inclusion, while providing continued support to their families.”
