Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has officially started operating the new and improved version of the traditional wooden abras.
The new abras will provide higher safety and efficiency. With the addition of two new designated areas for people of determination in wheelchairs, travel will now be convenient.
The abra driver's position has now been relocated to offer a better view, and to increase safety life jackets have also been added.
Each new abra is now fitted with smart transportation systems, GPS, cameras and nol payment systems, to make travel easier and smoother.
The new design can now carry 20 people and the new abras have a more powerful engine in comparison to the older abras.
The fare for the abra from Al Fahidi to Old Deira Souq is Dhs 2 per person.
Abras are available from Saturday to Thursday from 8am to 10.45pm and on Friday's from 10am to 11.45pm.
