Dubai Coffee Shop Shut Down, Several Others Fined For Violating COVID-19 Safety Rules

A coffee shop whose staff were found not wearing face masks was shut down by Dubai officials during ongoing inspections.

Dubai Economy confirmed in a series of tweets on Saturday that the coffee shop was closed down by officials as its employees were not wearing face masks, and not adhering to social distancing rules intended to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Seven other establishments were also fined by Dubai officials for not adhering to precautionary measures. These businesses were located in malls, International City and the Al Bada’a area.

Five more shops were fined for not placing social distancing stickers.

Authorities have stepped up safety inspections of establishments all over the country as the number of new confirmed cases of coronavirus increased over the past two weeks.

Dubai Economy reiterated the importance of following precautionary measures in order to curb the spread of the virus, and encouraged the reporting of any violations through the Dubai Consumer App.

On Saturday, 809 new COVID-19 cases were announced in the UAE, taking the overall tally to 84,242.
