Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) opened a unique four-way pedestrian bridge at one of Dubai Marina’s busiest junctions on Saturday.

Located at the intersection of King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud Street with Al Gharbi Street at the entrance of Dubai Marina, the four-directional footbridge can be used by up to 8,000 people per hour.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Commissioner General for Infrastructure, Urban Planning and Well-Being, said: “We are targeting a zero-fatality rate to rank Dubai among the world’s safest cities in traffic safety by 2021.”

“This pedestrian bridge features an iconic architectural design that adds to the appeal of the Dubai Marina area, a key destination for visitors and sea-goers that offers a unique experience for residents and tourists.”

The bright blue bridge has been designed in such a manner that it would fit well with the pattern of surrounding buildings, according to the officials.

Bike racks and cycling lanes have also been fitted in the four-direction bridge which is now open to the public.

RTA plans to build 36 footbridges between 2021 and 2026, which will bring the total number of pedestrian bridges in Dubai to 165.
