New Innovative Design Bus Shelters Unveiled For Dubai

The first set of 1,550 new bus shelters that are to be completed over the next few years have been unveiled by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The four new shelters have an innovative new design endorsed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. 

The four new bus shelters are located in highly populated areas which includes a main bus stop on 2nd of December Street, by Satwa Roundabout, which is used by 750 passengers per day, another on Burj Khalifa Boulevard (near Boulevard Walk), which is used by between 250 and 750 passengers per day. A third shelter is situated at Al Mustaqbal Street (near Park Towers), which is used by 100 to 250 passengers each day and the fourth is at a pick-up and drop-off stop on Al Mustaqbal Street behind Emirates Towers, which is used by 100 passengers daily.

An area of the shelters will be air-conditioned, and other areas will be shaded. The shelters will feature information screens with details on the bus network, timetable, service frequency and other information for passengers  There is also space at the shelters for parking bikes as well as ticket vending machines.

“The new design of bus shelters is part of a package of vital projects endorsed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum that bolster the image of Dubai as a perfect city for stable and safe living. The initiative is coherent with the vision of our leaders that calls for adopting the PPP model as a pivotal tool for stimulating the growth and development of Dubai." said His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA.

“The construction of shelters is part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to upgrade the public transport sector and set up a robust and integrated infrastructure to rely on. The overall aim is to serve the wellbeing of Dubai residents and make them happier through offering them, especially bus riders, handy services during the scorching summer heat,” added His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer.
