More than 16,000 drivers fined for using phones

Dubai Police will step up their campaign against drivers using mobile phones in Dubai. Over 16,000 drivers have been caught for using mobile phones while driving in the first three months this year. The fine for using mobile phones while driving is currently Dhs 200 and four black points. Under new regulations starting 1st July 2017, there will be Dhs 800 fine and four black points for using a phone, applying make-up or eating while driving. Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of traffic department in Dubai Police said that drivers using mobile phones while driving could cause deadly accidents and endanger the lives of other road users. Drivers should follow traffic instructions and stop their vehicle if they feel the need to check their phones. The total number of fines issued last year stood at 60,363. Dubai Police plans to increase the number of patrols to monitor drivers who commit the offence.
