Dubai Municipality has commenced implementation of an Dhs 80 million urban illumination project along Dubai Creek, following directives from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai.
Titled the 'Dubai Creek Lights' project, the development involves mounting more than 5,000 custom lighting units across an eight-kilometre stretch of the historic waterway. The lighting infrastructure will upgrade public promenades, Creek entrances, building façades, and waterfront walkways, forming a visual system designed to be visible from up to 1,500 feet above ground level. Project delivery is targeted for the first quarter of 2027.
Installation works are focused across six key areas: Creek Quay, the Creek Promenade at the Gold Souq, the Creek entrance at Infinity Bridge, Al Shindagha Historic District, Bur Dubai Souq, and Al Seef Marina. To protect the local ecosystem, the project incorporates energy-efficient lighting solutions engineered to limit light pollution and reduce impact on marine life along the channel.

The project will celebrate the Creek’s cultural heritage, showcase its urban identity and present it through a distinctive nighttime experience for residents and visitors. It reflects our commitment to making Dubai the world’s most beautiful and attractive city through an urban vision that preserves local identity while embracing advanced urban solutions.”
The upgrades will significantly improve pedestrian conditions along the Creek. Upgraded lighting along walkways between Al Shindagha, Deira Gold Souq, and Bur Dubai will make evening strolls, heritage tours, and wooden abra commutes safer and clearer. The enhancements will also extend active evening hours around public spaces along the water, supporting local dining and retail trade through cooler months.
