Jumeirah Beach 2 Becomes Dubai’s First Gold-Certified Accessible Beach

Jumeirah Beach 2 has become the first beach in Dubai to be awarded the Gold Accessibility Certification by the World Disability Union. Announcing the milestone on Monday, Dubai Municipality confirmed the destination has undergone an intensive six-month upgrade programme to align its public infrastructure with international accessibility standards and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The transformation ensures a fully barrier-free and independent recreational experience.

A key addition to the upgraded beach is the introduction of the Middle East's first purpose-built beach sensory room. This dedicated facility provides a regulated, calm environment designed to offer comfort and sensory stability for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and sensory sensitivities before, during, or after their time on the beach.

The comprehensive overhaul introduces several specialist physical accessibility solutions directly into the beach layout. The venue now features a dedicated swimming platform alongside a 73-metre-long beach access track, allowing direct and safe passage to the water. Visitors can access floating wheelchairs, complimentary beach chairs, tailored umbrellas, and inclusive playground facilities, while wheelchair charging stations and golf cart transfers have been integrated to facilitate seamless movement across the site.

Alongside the structural upgrades to maintain a supportive environment, approximately 150 frontline municipal and operational staff members completed specialised training covering inclusive customer service, the safe operation of specialised mobility equipment, and emergency evacuation protocols tailored for guests facing mobility and sensory challenges.
