UAE Reintroduces Midday Summer Work Ban

WAM

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has confirmed the return of the UAE's annual midday work ban for summer 2026.

The restriction will be in force from 15 June until 15 September, preventing outdoor work under direct sunlight between 12.30pm and 3pm each day.

Now in its 22nd year, the initiative aims to protect workers from heat-related illnesses during the hottest period of the year and forms a key part of the UAE's labour welfare framework.

Certain activities that cannot be postponed due to technical requirements or public safety concerns will be exempt. These include emergency utility repairs, urgent traffic works, asphalt laying and concrete pouring.

Companies must provide shaded rest areas, drinking water, cooling equipment and first aid facilities for workers. Compliance will be monitored through inspections and digital systems, while awareness campaigns will remind employers of their responsibilities.

Members of the public can report violations through MoHRE's call centre, website or smart application.
