All we need to do is to understand the changes the season has brought and practice a few yoga breathing techniques to ensure the body and mind stay fit.

Sheetali pranayama

This breathing technique helps in keeping body cool during hot summer months. Stick your tongue out and curl it inwards towards the centre. Hold the breath for as long as you can and then slowly exhale through the nose. Repeat it five to ten times.

It’s important to keep yourself hydrated during the summer, however besides drinking a minimum of three to five litres of water, you can also practice a breathing technique that helps in quenching thirst and keeping body temperature low. However, drinking water is a must and should not be replaced with this breathing technique at all.

With the mouth open, clench your teeth and press the tongue against the teeth. Breathe in through the mouth, close the mouth and then breathe out normally through the nose. Repeat it five to ten times.

This breathing technique has a cooling effect on the nervous system and boosts the energy channels. Close the right nostril with your right thumb. Exhale completely through the left nostril and then breathe in through the left nostril. Close the left nostril with your little ring finger and exhale through the right.
