It's International Yoga Day! Here Are Some Things You Didn't Know About Yoga

Yoga is practised by millions worldwide. As today is International Yoga Day, we’ve rounded up a few facts you probably didn’t know about this ancient art.

1. Laughter yoga is practiced in more than 60 countries. And, it’s exactly what it sounds like - they say laughter is the best medicine, after all!

2. The world’s oldest yoga teacher is 85-years-old. According to The Guinness Book of World Records, at least.

3. In America alone, yoga enthusiasts send $5.7 billion a year on getting kitted out. These include mats, leggings and water bottles.

4. The originally reason for slow, controlled breaths during a yoga session is that ancient yogis believed that we only had a limited amount of breaths in our lives. So, it makes sense that we’d want to make them last!

5. The Beatles drove people to practise yoga. George Harrison infused his appreciation for the art of yoga into his songs in the ‘70s and as fans do, they followed suit.

6. The first ever book was written by yogis. The Rig Veda is believed to be the oldest, and the first text in the world dating back to 1500BC.
