Sir Elton John has said he is "in shock," following the death of his mother earlier today. The star announced that his mother, Sheila Farebrother had died aged 90 this morning.
Posting a picture of the pair on Instagram, Sir Elton wrote: "So sad to say that my mother passed away this morning.
"I only saw her last Monday and I am in shock. Travel safe Mum. Thank-you for everything. I will miss you so much. Love, Elton."
Sir Elton is scheduled to perform live in Dubai at the Autism Rocks Arena on Friday 8 December, there is currently no word as to whether or not the performance will be cancelled.
