Saruq Al-Hadid Museum
History comes alive at Saruq Al-Hadid Museum where locally unearthed artefacts are displayed that evidence Dubai’s role as a hub for trade and civilisation in the Arabian Peninsula. Saruq Al Hadid is an archaeological site, the oldest discovered in Dubai so far, and it reveals intriguing details of a mysterious civilisation that existed 4,000 years ago in the Rub Al Khali desert. In 2002, the site was discovered by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, while on a helicopter hovering over the area, as he noticed that the sand dunes were darker in colours than their surroundings. It was here that a gold ring was discovered that inspired the new Dubai Expo 2020 logo. This newly-opened museum takes you through the mysterious route of archaeological discoveries and presents exciting treasures of long ago. Samia Halaby
New Yorker Samia Halaby exhibits two of her latest projects side-by-side at Ayyam Gallery, Alserkal Avenue. ‘Illuminated Spaces’ is the artist’s impression of the space of light, depicted through paintings of her environment. The second, entitled ‘Documentary Drawings of the KafrQasem Massacre’ is a hard-hitting series illustrating the tragic events of 1956 in Palestine. Open from now until 17th June. Fred Kleinberg
La Galerie Nationale brings back the successful concept of showcasing art and designer pieces in a space that is laid out to look like an apartment, with actual pieces of art as décor, including furniture. This time a whole new set of artists has been showcased in the unusual space, and Fred Kleinberg, creating art since 1985, is exhibiting his oil paintings.
