Second Phase Of Smart Pedestrian Signals Launched

Dubai Media Office

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has started the second phase of the Smart Pedestrian Signals project in Dubai.

Ten new sites will be targeted, and the project will see the smart pedestrian signal locations increase to 28 by 2024.

The smart signals use high-end technology to manage traffic better as well as ensure the safety of pedestrians.

By assessing the number of pedestrians crossing the road as well as waiting to cross, the signal offers additional time, allowing people of determination and elderly people to cross the road with ease.

The locations for the smart pedestrian signals are based on the proximity of pedestrian crossings, the rate of pedestrian incidents at the signal, the speed limit, the number of lanes in each direction, the distance to footbridges and the road design.
