Dubai Customs Foil Plans To Smuggle Pills

Dubai Customs has managed to foil two plans to smuggle narcotic pills.

The operation called 'Double Strike', found a shipment of 32.8 million pills hidden among food and medical equipment at the Jebel Ali and TECOM Customs Center.

Over 1.2 million Captagon pills were also found in a shipment coming in at the Deira Wharfage Customs Center.

His Excellency Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director General of Dubai Customs, CEO of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation said, "Our teams are alert and ready all the time to counter security and customs violations and protect societies from the hazards of illegitimate trade within our borders and beyond. We are making double efforts to combat all forms of smuggling narcotic substances through our border crossings. The UAE has a distinctive record in combating drugs, and Dubai follows the highest standards and procedures in inspection and interception reaffirming the emirate’s position as a global hub for safe and fair trade."

Captagon are highly addictive pills, banned in the UAE, that when taken in small doses, cause the individual to experience an elevated heart rate, body temperature and blood pressure.

Over time, the use of the pills can lead to depression, sleep deprivation, malnutrition and more.
