His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, inaugurated the UAE National Railway Network.

The UAE National Railway Network is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the UAE and will link all seven emirates to a main railway network.

The cargo train operations have also been launched in the emirates.

The main line of the network extends from Ghuweifat, on the border of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to Fujairah.

Stage one of the network has been operational since January 2016, with stage two completed by early 2020.

The network was constructed using 11 contractors, 25 consultants and 28,000 specialists, and required 133 million working hours to complete.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed said, "We are proud of the performance of our sons and daughters who have worked hard over the years to build an ambitious strategic project that will propel our national economy to greater heights. Connecting the Emirates via a national railway network strengthens our capabilities and competitiveness and consolidates our unity."
