RTA Uses AI For Bus Efficiency

RTA

Artificial intelligence, as well as advanced technology, is now being used to improve public buses.

The Remote Bus Performance Monitoring Centre monitored the Al Quoz Bus Depot and along with FAMCO monitored the performance and efficiency of 373 Volvo buses in real-time using a telematics system fitted into the new buses.

The system contains 47 types of notifications that cover the mechanical aspects of the bus, fuel consumption per kilometre, the condition of the onboard safety systems as well as support the planning for the periodic and preventive maintenance of buses, improved the assessment of driver's efficiency, enhanced the road safety levels, and increased customer's happiness ratings.

The system will be expanded to include 316 additional buses.

A new system called City Brain will also be implemented with Alibaba and will help in converting the data into information to send instant notifications about the revised bus schedules and routes.

The Remote Bus Performance Monitoring Centre has contributed to reducing fuel consumption and faults from 5% to 10%, and the City Brain System is expected to increase bus ridership by 17%.
