School Fees Come Down

In a month that has seen the introduction of VAT increasing the cost to life in Dubai, January has witnessed a much welcome respite for parents with some of Dubai schools annoucing reductions in their tuition fees for the next academic year starting September, citing economic pressure as one of the reasons.

Although many schools offer scholarships and discount schemes, it is rare for Dubai schools to slash fees outright.

Earlier this month Horizon International School (HIS) in Dubai annoucned it will be reducing it's tuition fees by 33 percent to Dhs 65,000 for years 12 and 13. The British school also lowered prices for years 4 and 5 by 7 percent to AED48,335.

Foremarke School Dubai, part of Evolvence Knowledge Investments (EKI), also recently revised its fees and reduced them by 10 percent from FS1 to year 6, starting in September.

It’s sister school, Repton, has also lowered fees by an average of 10 percent. Moreover, it frozen the fees on junior school for the next academic year.

With education being one of the biggest costs for residents, these reductons are very welcome and eases the finacial pressure.
