First food bank launches in Dubai

The UAE's first food bank has been launched in Dubai on Wednesday which aims to help provide food for low-income families and labourers. There are 96 hotels, 240 food shops and 7 charity groups across the country currently signed up following His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai's call to donate their excess food and help with its distribution. The Dubai Municipality has developed a UAE Food Bank app to manage the logistics of each donation. Donors can sign up to the app and list the daily products they have for collection. There will be a transport company authorised to collect and deliver the produce to the food bank. Partner charities can claim the goods through the app and redistribute the food. Dubai Municipality plans to launch more food bank outlets soon.
