His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, launched the official operations of the autonomous RT6 taxi service in Dubai, developed by Baidu Apollo Go.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan took a ride in the autonomous vehicle to the World Governments Summit at Madinat Jumeirah, marking the public launch of the service.
The RT6 taxis are powered by artificial intelligence, advanced sensing technologies, and autonomous decision-making systems.
Equipped with more than 40 sensors, including LiDAR systems and advanced cameras, the taxis can comprehensively perceive surroundings, respond to changing traffic conditions, and make real-time decisions. The vehicle operates on an advanced software ecosystem that integrates real-time data, high-definition maps, and deep-learning algorithms.
Baidu’s autonomous vehicles have already completed more than 150 million kilometres of safe driving and over 10 million trips globally, providing a mature foundation for large-scale deployment in Dubai.
