5.9 Million Passengers Used Public Transport During Eid Holidays

During the Eid holidays, some Dubai residents chose to spend time with their families abroad, while others stayed in Dubai to celebrate. Those who stayed in Dubai took advantage of the well-connected public transportation system of the emirate. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) reported that public transport, taxis, and shared mobility vehicles collectively transported approximately 5.9 million passengers during the Eid Al Fitr holidays from 10 to 12 April 2024. Yes, a whopping 5.9 million people rode Dubai's public transport during the holidays! Now, Let's have a look at the numbers.  

The breakdown shows that Dubai Metro’s Red and Green Lines served 2.32 million passengers, Dubai Tram accommodated 115,000 passengers, public buses were used by 1.2 million passengers, and marine transport ferried 416,000 passengers. Taxis transported 1.6 million passengers, and shared mobility vehicles served 308,000 passengers.

Modes Of Public Transport In Dubai 

- Dubai Metro: Covering a vast distance of nearly 90km and with ongoing expansion plans, the Dubai Metro stands out as one of the most economical modes of public transportation in the UAE. Comprising two lines, the Red Line and Green Line, it is connected across key areas.

- Dubai Tram: Introduced in 2014, the Dubai Tram encompasses 11 stations and travels through Dubai Marina and JBR, offering a practical means of transportation. The key tram stations include Jumeirah Beach Residence 1 Tram Station, Jumeirah Beach Residence 2 Tram Station, Jumeirah Lakes Towers Tram Station, Dubai Marina Mall, Dubai Marina Tram Station, Marina Towers Tram Station, Mina Seyahi Tram Station, Media City Tram Station, Palm Jumeirah Tram Station, Knowledge Village Tram Station, and Al Sufouh Tram Station.

- Dubai Bus: The RTA manages a fleet of over 1,500 public buses, covering metro lines, inter-city routes, and fast lines. The Dubai Bus service extends its reach through 17 well-equipped bus stations and over 2,000 bus stops scattered across the city.

- Dubai Ferry Rides: Operated by the RTA, Dubai ferries offer a comfortable and air-conditioned maritime experience for passengers. With seating for up to 98 people, these ferries are ideal for visitors eager to explore Dubai from a unique perspective, the city boasts several ferry routes, some tailored specifically for sightseeing.
