RTA Bans E-scooters On Dubai Metro And Tram

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) made an announcement via X, formerly known as Twitter, that starting Friday, 1 March, 2024, e-scooters would no longer be permitted inside the Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram. This decision is made to enhance commuter safety. The RTA emphasised their commitment to safety with the hashtag #YourSafetyOurPriority.

Previously, many commuters would bring foldable e-scooters on board to facilitate their travel around Dubai. However, with the ban in effect, this practice stops to be an option. Exact reason for the ban, and rules regarding the same are yet to revealed.

This move reflects the RTA's ongoing efforts to prioritise commuter safety and enhance overall public transportation experience in Dubai.

Besides this, RTA has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Terminus Group, a prominent provider of robotics and advanced technical systems, for the implementation of the smart robot in Dubai. The smart robot will monitor the use of soft mobility options like bikes and electric scooters, detecting violations and working with Dubai Police to share and analyse them.
