Dubai To Launch AI-Powered Smart Robot To Monitor Scooter, Bike Offenders And More

Government Of Dubai

Starting March 2024, Dubai will introduce a smart robot to oversee surveillance and identify violations related to soft mobility means, such as bicycles and electric scooters. The trial period will begin in the Jumeirah 3 beach area to assess its effectiveness before considering wider implementation.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, oversaw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Terminus Group, a prominent provider of robotics and advanced technical systems, for the implementation of the smart robot.

The signing occurred at the fifth edition of MENA Transport Congress and Exhibition 2024. Ahmed Mahboub, Acting CEO of the Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector at RTA, and Dr. Ling Shao, President of Terminus International and Chief Scientist of Terminus Group, were present during the signing ceremony.

What Will The Smart Robot Do

The smart robot will monitor the use of soft mobility options like bikes and electric scooters, detecting violations and working with Dubai Police to share and analyse them. With artificial intelligence, the robot will spot various violations, such as large gatherings, failure to adhere to personal safety protocols like wearing helmets, abandonment of scooters in unauthorised areas, scooter use by multiple riders, and riding scooters in pedestrian-only zones.

Features Of The Smart Robot

The robot boasts advanced technology and meets the highest safety criteria. It can spot violations with more than 85% accuracy, provide data in just 5 seconds, and survey an area up to 2km away. It's built to work effectively in different weather conditions and has sensors that stop it when it gets within 1.5 metres of anything or anyone, ensuring the safety of everyone using Dubai's roads.
