Old Municipal Streets In Deira Transform Into A Vibrant Pedestrian Corridor

Dubai Municipality has completed the Old Municipal Street project in Deira, turning it from a regular road into a lively pedestrian-friendly tourist destination. This revitalised street, extending from the Al Ras area to the famous Gold Souq, offers visitors an immersive experience of Dubai's vibrant heritage.

As part of the project, the municipality executed a comprehensive renovation, which included enhancing the street pavement, installing a new gate, improving lighting, and adding heritage features like the iconic Al Mandus. To provide comfort and preserve authenticity, traditional seating areas and heritage-inspired umbrellas now adorn the street, giving tourists a glimpse into the historical charm of one of Dubai's oldest areas.

Dawoud Al Hajri, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, emphasised the strategic significance of the Old Municipal Street project as part of a broader initiative to rejuvenate Deira and Bur Dubai’s historic areas, as well as various heritage sites and markets across the Emirate.

Al Hajri said, “We are working towards making Dubai more attractive and aesthetic by providing attractive and integrated facilities while preserving the Emirate's historical architectural identity. This is to cement the status of Dubai as a premier global tourist destination that seamlessly merges contemporary allure with ancient cultural landmarks.”

The municipality paved the street, closing it to vehicles to ensure smooth operations. This move aims to enhance the experience for tourists and visitors, making the area more recognisable. It also aims to boost commercial activity, encouraging investors to expand their businesses in line with the street's new identity.
