The UAE Food Bank Launches Plan To Reduce Food Waste

WAM

The UAE Food Bank has launched the strategic plan for 2023 to 2027, with a target to reduce food waste that ends up in landfills by 30%.

To increase sustainability and food security in the UAE, the UAE Food Bank will support local farmers and expand partnerships with food establishments, companies and hotels, to donate surplus food and reduce wastage.

Awareness campaigns on how to manage food waste will also be launched at schools, as well as government and private companies.

Since being founded in 2017, the UAE Food Bank has distributed over 55 million meals to individuals and preserved 55,000 tonnes of food from being wasted. This has been achieved in partnerships with over 200 food establishments, hotels, restaurants, hypermarkets, central kitchens and charity organisations in the UAE.
