Mukesh 'Micky' Jagtiani, Founder and Chairperson of Landmark Group, has passed away at the age of 70.

The Indian businessman founded Landmark Group in July 1973, whiuch has grown immensely over 50 years, and includes stores like Babyshop, Home Centre, Splash, Lifestyle and Emax.

One of the richest Indians living in the UAE, the life of Micky Jagtiani is an inspiring one, who started out as a taxi driver in London.

In 1973, Micky Jagtiani took over his brother's store in Bahrain, turning the store into a place to shop baby products from, with the launch of Babyshop, which further expanded its branches around the world.

Landmark Group in 1990, moved its headquarters to Dubai, opening the first Shoe Mart in the city.

In 1992, the group branched out to Oman and then Saudi Arabia in 1994.

Lifestyle, the one-stop store for clothing, shoes, accessories and makeup, was then opened in 1999 in India.

Landmark Group also operates Spar in India, which is a leading supermarket for buying produce and groceries.

In 2009, the group started the first Beat Diabetes walk, which raises awareness to remind people of the detrimental health effects the disease can have on a person's life. 

In 2015, the group celebrated opening 2,000 stores around the world.

Micky Jagtiani is survived by his wife, Renuka Jagtiani and three children, Nisha Jagtiani, Rahul Jagtiani and Arti Jagtiani.
