Bang on trend

A new season is upon us and with it comes a plethora of new beauty trends to get excited about. It’s time to ditch the bronzer and BB creams of summer - we’re going to the dark side. Celebrity make-up artist to the stars, Sarah-Jane Thompson, has done all the hard work for you and scoured the catwalks to bring you the hottest trends this autumn.

If there were just one trend that popped during fashion week, it was found on the ramps of Chloe, Roberto Cavalli and Alexander McQueen. Limits were pushed and the shimmery make-up of last season was shoved aside for an ‘I mean business’ Gothic look with bold black liner and dark, vamp lips. Try Laura Mercier 24 Hour liquid liner to create a classic flick which won’t budge, no matter how late the party goes on to, followed by a coat of a plumping mascara such as Dior Show’s Iconic Overcurl. For all out drama, heat a lash curler, such as Tweezerman, with a hairdryer for a few seconds before curling your lashes - you’ll get an instant lash perm and can ditch the faux lashes.

Lips are a main focus within the Gothic look, and when using dark colours, it is vital to use a lip liner. As seen on the Dior catwalk, a black or dark plum liner creates instant definition and will keep your lippie smudge free. Try a matte lipstick such as Lipstick Queen’s top seller Velvet Rope or Silver Screen or for a glossier finish, Deadly Sin or Vanity.

With a nod to the approach of the party season, glitter made an appearance at Tommy Hilfiger where legendary make-up guru, Pat McGrath, topped off a smoky eye with a light sprinkling of gold across the brow bone, and unusually, as tear drops! Feel free to continue on your sparkle parade with the addition of face gems - with this look, anything goes.

A good base is always vital for any look and a primer is a must. The Rodial Instaglam Airbrush Primer combined with a few drops of Rodial Snake Serum provides a flawless canvas, which can then be treated to a foundation such as the Rodial Skin Tint. Remember to apply with a foundation brush to get an even, flawless look.
