Masks of rejuvenation

Summer is the perfect time to get that effortless sun-kissed looked, but considering the kind of heat we are exposed to here in the UAE, your skin could be in need of some regular TLC. Try these rejuvenating natural DIY masks to get your face looking fresher than ever.

Banana and honey

Maintaining water in our skin can get more difficult as we get older. Bananas, which are rich in vitamin A, can help with this. Because of its antioxidants, honey is great for sagging skin.

  • ½ banana
  • 2 tbsp of honey

Make a paste with the banana and honey and spread it evenly all over the face and neck. Leave it for 10 minutes and then rinse well with a light facial cleanser.

Saffron and coconut milk

With its moisturising qualities, coconut milk is perfect if your skin needs that kick of moisture. Add saffron to give your skin that glowing look.

  • 1 cup of coconut milk
  • ½ tsp of saffron

Boil milk with saffron for about five minutes and allow it to cool and thicken. Apply this on your face and let it sit for 15 minutes. Rinse well.

Strawberry and rose

This one is perfect for skin that has become sensitive to the sun and needs a little destressing.

Handful of rose petals or 1 tbsp of

  • rose water
  • 2 large strawberries

Grind the petals into a powder. Add strawberries and mash together. Apply this generously on your face and neck, and let it dry before rinsing it off. You can also replace the petal powder with rose water.

Avocado, carrot and cream

With its high vitamin E content, avocados improve skin texture and hydration. Also, carrots are rich in antioxidants and cream is filled with healthy proteins.

  • 1 carrot, steamed
  • 1 avocado, mashed
  • ½ cup of heavy cream
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3 tbsp of honey

Steam the carrot in boiling water for 15 minutes, and then mash it. To the carrot mash, mix in one mashed avocado with half a cup of heavy cream and a beaten egg. Add three spoonful of honey to give it even more moisturising qualities. Apply the mixture evenly across the face. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes and then wash it off with a gentle facial cleanser.
