Leading Retailers Confirm 30% Municipality Tax Removed In Dubai Stores

Further to a directive from the Government of Dubai, Maritime and Mercantile International (MMI) has confirmed that the 30% municipality tax added onto alcoholic beverages sold across its 21stores in Dubai has been removed.

In a statement, Tyrone Reid, Group CEO of MMI and Emirates Leisure said "Following the announcement by the Government of Dubai to remove the 30% municipality tax on sales of alcoholic beverages, we are pleased to announce that this will be reflected across all alcoholic beverages in all our 21 MMI stores in Dubai, effective 1st January."

MMI has also confirmed that from 1 January 2023 the personal alcohol licence required to purchase alcoholic beverages will be free to obtain for those eligible to legally purchase beverages in Dubai. To apply, residents need to present a valid Emirates ID in store.

African and Eastern has also confirmed that the 30% municipality tax has been removed across its 20 Dubai stores and also no fee applies to those eligible for a personal alcohol licence.
