Non-Invasive Surgery Preformed At ENDO Dubai

During ENDO Dubai, a scientific event in the field of gynaecological surgery, live keyhole surgery was performed to remove a 500-gram fibroid.

The surgery was performed by Dr Rajesh Devassy and his team, on a 37-year-old patient.

The successful removal of the fibroid from the woman's uterus was done through a non-invasive surgery and preserved her uterus, helping in faster recovery as well as same-day hospital discharge.

Prior to the surgery, the women suffered from severe bleeding which led to weakness and anaemia for 10 years, and with the location of the fibroid the surgery was extremely critical.

Fibroids although not life-threatening can cause issues including persistent pelvic pain, heavy menstrual bleeding leading to anaemia and pressure in the bladder causing frequent urination or difficulty in emptying the bladder.

If issues like this persist, women are advised to get medical assistance.

Dr Rajesh Devassy has performed over 38,000 surgeries and has removed a 4.7kg tumour from a patient at Dubai London Hospital as well as fibroids weighing around 3.5kg.

Dr Rajesh Devassy said, “While ENDO Dubai has been a truly meaningful meeting of minds, we also want to take this opportunity, especially on the occasion of International Women’s Month to raise awareness on uterine fibroids as a very common problem for females, with 50% to 60% of the cases needing medical attention. Fibroid surgeries are the second-highest after breast surgeries. It is very important that these abnormal growths on or in the uterus are detected at an early stage. Women should not fear the treatment as we’ve made huge advancements towards simplifying them. And in more complicated cases, minimally invasive surgeries are widely available and can be done with high precision and full preservation of the uterus.”
