Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has announced that elective therapeutic surgeries have been put on hold till 19 February.
The new directive applies to all DHA licensed hospitals and day surgical centres.
The decision has come about to ensure that people in critical health are prioritised and given the care needed.
Surgeries that require deep sedation and general anaesthesia have been cancelled, however surgeries that are medical emergencies are permitted.
