Dubai Parking Metres Get Arty Makeover

RTA

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Government of Dubai Media Office, have teamed up to give an artistic makeover to parking spaces across Dubai with a vision of transforming the city into an open-air museum.

With six Emirati and expatriate artists at the helm of 'The Parking Metres' project, around 100 parking metres in Jumeirah, Dubai Media City and Al Mustaqbal Street have been painted and transformed with 15 artworks inspired by the themes of diversity and tolerance.

These designs include a Tetris-style game, an Emirati man with a big smile, Russian dolls and a smiling ice-cream cone.

The project is part of the #DubaiSpeaksToYou initiative, which aims to create unique creative experiences for people as part of converting the city into a canvas for art.

Fatma Al Mulla, Project Manager of the Parking Metres project, said: “We have brought together a group of Emirati and expatriate artists to create a series of art experiences that will highlight Dubai’s vision for an inclusive society. The experiences have been curated to transport residents and visitors from everyday life into the realm of imagination and beauty."

Emirati artists contributing to the project include Reem Al Marri, Issa Al Noaimi, and Sheikha Fekri. The Dubai-based expatriate artists taking part in the project include Ari Puguh, Dina Sami and Rosanna Lamo-Villanueva.
