Free Tap Water

Good news for Dubai diners. You will soon be able to save a few dirhams on 'expensive' bottled water when you go out to eat from next year.

According to a new update from Dubai Municipality, Dubai restaurants have been advised that they will have to offer filtered tap water for free under new guidelines updated in the Dubai Food Code.

The measure has a larger purpose of reducing the single-plastic use as well as aligning with the best international policies.

Amal Al Bedwawi, Head of the Drinking Water Control Unit at Dubai Municipality says, "Whenever you go to restaurants or hotels, you will now be seeing drinking water regulations. If you want to have a cup of water, you will see you can get it from the tap or from the bottle and you just have to select which one."

Amal Al Bedwawi says that water that comes from the tap is filtered and is of drinkable quality, however when it is stored in tanks, the risk increases, so restaurants need to make sure that the tanks are clean so they offer clean tap water to their customers.
