Dubai Police have issued a warning about the serious risks of stopping in the middle of the road due to vehicle breakdowns, running out of fuel, or tyre failures. Motorists are urged to ensure their vehicles are in proper condition before setting out.

The warning follows a recent incident on Al Khail Road in the direction of Abu Dhabi. Three people suffered serious to moderate injuries. The incident occurred when a driver suddenly stopped in the middle of the road to retrieve a vehicle number plate. The second vehicle, approaching from behind, failed to pay attention, ran over the individual, and crashed into both the stopped vehicle and a third vehicle. A team of traffic experts were at the site to collect evidence before conducting a detailed probe.

Authorities highlighted that stopping in the middle of the road carries a fine of Dhs 1,000 and six traffic points. Additionally, a separate fine of Dhs 500 applies under Article 98 for obstructing traffic flow.

Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, stressed that stopping on the road is among the most dangerous violations, often leading to severe accidents, fatalities, and serious injuries. Drivers must contact the police immediately if a vehicle breaks down and cannot be moved, so necessary measures can be taken, including securing the vehicle and ensuring the safety of road users.

Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan further explained that in the event of a breakdown or traffic accident where the vehicle cannot be moved off the road, drivers must take precautionary steps. These include activating hazard warning lights, ensuring their own safety and that of passengers first, placing a warning triangle at a sufficient distance behind the vehicle, leaving the vehicle, moving to a safe area away from the road, and contacting the police.
