RTA Renovates Dubai’s Landmark Water Canal Bridge’s Waterfall

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) recently finished comprehensive maintenance work on the Dubai Water Canal Bridge's waterfall along Sheikh Zayed Road. This two-month project focused
on improving the waterfall's safety to meet top international standards while preserving Dubai Water Canal's aesthetic appeal, reflecting the city's identity and culture.

The maintenance efforts, counting over 600 working hours, involved dismantling and reinstalling the waterfall's outer aluminium after refurbishment. The project also included replacing the previous stainless-steel water pipes with polyethylene pipes for sustainability and updating the waterfall's structure. Additionally, a floating platform was installed for improved accessibility and safety during maintenance.

This refurbishment aligns with RTA's strategy to maintain its assets and installations, extending their lifespan. Maintenance procedures were conducted daily, monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, and annually, incorporating thermal imaging and ultrasonic testing to ensure proper functioning of lighting and electrical distribution panels.

The illuminated waterfall exemplifies RTA's inventive approach and adds to the aesthetic charm of Dubai Water Canal, a renowned tourist destination. Notably, the waterfall features motion sensors that halt its flow when boats pass beneath, ensuring safety and beauty.

Dubai Water Canal, connecting Business Bay to the Arabian Gulf, is one of RTA's remarkable projects, celebrated for its beauty and functionality, and serving as a focal point for tourists and local communities alike.
