Dubai Duty-Free Makes Record Sales Of Over Dhs 7.8 Billion In 2023

2024 is here, and the new year began with a bang for Dubai Duty-Free as the operation announces an all-time sales record of Dhs 7.885 billion for 2023. This figure is up by 24.39% compared to the sales in 2022 and 6.40% more than the pre-pandemic sales in 2019. 

In December 2023, Dubai Duty Free recorded monthly sales of whopping Dhs 807.6 million, an 8.37% increase compared to 2022. December sales were further fuelled by Dubai Duty-Free’s 40th-anniversary celebrations when the operation offered a 25% discount on 20th December, which resulted in a shopping spree of Dhs 54.1 million for 24 hours.

With an average daily sales transaction of 55,000, Dubai Duty-Free recorded over 20 million transactions throughout the year. In terms of the categories, the top five selling categories for 2023 were perfumes, followed by liquor, gold, cigarettes tobacco, and electronics.

1 Perfume:

    • Sales: Dhs 1.366 billion
    • Contribution: 17% of total sales

2 Liquor:

    • Sales: Dhs 1.130 billion 
    • Contribution: 14% of total sales

3 Gold:

    • Sales: Dhs 773,506 million 
    • Contribution: 10% of total sales

4 Cigarettes Tobacco:

    • Sales: Dhs 745,694 million 
    • Contribution: 9.5% of total sales

5 Electronics:

    • Sales: Dhs 628 million 
    • Contribution: 8% of total sales

6 Online Sales:

    • Contribution: 2% of overall sales
    • Sales: Dhs 164 million 

Besides this, sales in departures reached Dhs 7.062 billion accounting for 90% of the total annual sales, while arrival sales tallied at Dhs 612 million, representing 8% of total sales. 

These are the top source markets for Dubai Duty-Free sales, listed in descending order based on their respective sales amounts.

1 India: Sales: Dhs 973 million 

2 Russia: Sales: Dhs 759 million 

3 China: Sales: Dhs 564 million 

4 Saudi Arabia: Sales: Dhs 512 million

5 UK: Sales: Dhs 373 million
