Paediatric Clinic Opened To Treat Patients With Uveitis

Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), along with PureHealth Group, have opened a paediatric clinic at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), dedicated to patients with uveitis.

Uveitis is an inflammatory eye disease that can lead to rheumatology issues, which causes inflammation in the bones, muscles, joints and internal organs.

Specialists in rheumatology and ophthalmology will work together at the centre to create treatment plans for children, by providing the required information for care quickly.

Uveitis occurs when the body’s immune system is fighting an eye infection or when the immune system attacks healthy tissue.

Early diagnosis and prevention are key in treating the issue, as if left untreated, can lead to blindness.

Dr Kamran Mahmood, Consultant Paediatric Rheumatologist at SKMC said, "This style of treatment has been seen all over the world, and I’m thrilled that it’s finally being brought to the UAE. We’re now able to provide patients with specialist care for their inflammatory eye diseases, and the treatment strategies can then be discussed and initiated promptly. In these instances, time is of the essence, and now we’re positioned to deliver the best care possible."

To book an appointment, either visit the SEHA website or call 80050.
