Movember - Male Infertility and Diabetes!

Wondering what is Movember?  Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues. Fakih IVF is here to let men know about how diabetes can be a reason for Infertility as it is also the Diabetes Awareness Month.

Diabetes is a genuine health concern, which requires cautious consideration and monitoring of diet, exercise and lifestyle habits. Here are the few medical issues that make conception difficult or less possible without treatment.

Erectile Dysfunction: Men who battle with erectile dysfunctions are not able to keep up an erection for a long time. Erectile Dysfunction is caused by nerve damage and issues with proper blood circulation. It is most basic in long-term diabetics and those with untreated diabetes.

Low Sperm Quality: Sperm quality and sperm motility are two different things. Research shows that diabetes can lead to reduced sperm quality but diabetes as such does not appear to affect motility of sperm (the ability of the sperm to move towards the egg) or cause infertility as a result. Quality is the sperm's capacity to welcome an egg, while motility is the sperm's capacity to travel towards an egg so it can fertilize. Motility is not influenced by diabetes, yet quality can be weakened. Obesity, an issue connected to diabetes, plays an important part in a man's sperm quality.

Retarded Ejaculation: This is the point at which a man battles to ejaculate because of penile nerve harm, certain medications, stress or mental issues, or diabetes. Assisted reproduction technology (ART), such as IVF, can help with treating infertility if conception via intercourse is problematic or impossible.

Retrograde Ejaculation: Another issue that might outcome starting with neuropathy (autonomic neuropathy) is retrograde discharge. This happens assuming that nerves are unable to control the muscles of the bladder from closing at the point of ejaculation, which brings about semen entering those bladders rather than exiting through via the penis. This is not a serious health concern, but it will make it difficult to conceive without assisted reproductive technology.

Low testosterone (hypogonadism): Testosterone is a hormone that declines as men age yet it is likewise connected to diabetes and infertility.  Low testosterone cannot be cured, yet treatment alternatives to help raise those hormone levels are accessible through prescription, and lifestyle changes.

Few tips to lower your blood sugar level naturally:

  • Exercising regularly helps you to lose weight and increase insulin Sensitivity
  • Count your carbs intake as low-carb diet helps reduce blood sugar levels and prevent blood sugar spikes
  • Take food with high Fiber, which includes vegetables, fruits, legumes and whole grains as a high-fiber diet can help manage type 1 diabetes by improving blood sugar control and reducing blood sugar lows
  • Stay Hydrated and drink enough water as it helps your kidneys flush out the excess blood sugar through urine.
  • Control your stress as hormones such as glucagon and cortisol are secreted during stress. These hormones cause blood sugar levels to go up
  • Get enough quality sleep. Lack of sleep decreases the arrival of growth hormones and expands cortisol levels. Both of these play a critical part in glucose control
